05-30-11 FII Headquarters was excited to be apart of the 2011 Blue Wild Expo hosted at the Broward Convention Center on Memorial Day weekend. The FII Team consisting of Errol Putigna, Mark Wallerstein, Niki Roderick, Jonathan Dickinson and Martin Stepanek were all kept busy with a constant flow of water sports enthusiasts seeking local FII certified courses and information.

During the event the FII team proudly launched a new core curriculum, the Junior Freediver (JNF) course. This two day course has been specially adapted by grade school teaching professionals to be both digestible and fun for ages 12-15 years. The new program was well received by the community and the team’s very excited to see this program kick off with its first official course on June 6-7, 2011 in Jupiter, Florida.
A lot of the new participants joining us were drawn in by a recent Steve Waters and Nick Sortal’s Sun Sentential cover page article on Martin Stepanek and FII. Most of these people came to us with no previous spearfishing or freediving background and were simply amazed at how accessible the sport is.
FII’s Director of Education, Martin Stepanek presented his fascinating seminar on “Freediving Fitness for Spearfishing and Training Methodology” to a packed out seminar room. As an intermediate level seminar, it perfectly catered to the experienced crowd, whom, having already taken FII training, could easily apply the techniques.
Overall, we were thrilled to be apart of such a fun weekend hosted by Sheri Daye and her team. The Expo is an annual fund-raising effort for International Underwater Spearfishing Association and Twin Palms Center for the Disabled.

he team was thrilled to catch up with so many past students. Most of whom eagerly reported back their freediving improvements and how it has successfully carried over into their particular freediving interest, such as spearfishing, or underwater photography. This is incredibly rewarding from an educator's perspective.
