Model, actress, dancer and popular Las Vegas showgirl!

freediving showgirlCurrently performing in Donn Arden’s Jubilee!, Alexandra is one of the last true Las Vegas showgirls. Originally from the Bay Area in California, she trained at the San Francisco Ballet School while attending Lycée Internationale Franco-Americaine. Alex then moved to Salt Lake City where she performed soloist and principal roles as a member of Utah Ballet at the University of Utah. She graduated with a B.F.A. in Ballet magna cum laude before moving to Las Vegas. There she began her professional career as a member of the corps de ballet with Nevada Ballet Theater under the direction of James Canfield. Alex has performed with San Francisco Ballet, Ballet West, and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. Her passion for freediving began 6 months ago when she saw the IMAX documentary Freedive featuring World Record Freediver, Tanya Streeter. She completed her Level 1 Freedive course with Mark Lozano and Brandon Gross in San Diego, California. Bitten hard by the freedive bug, she headed to Kona three months later where she completed Level 2 Freediver course under the instruction of Kurt Chambers. After freediving only 5 times in her life – always under the guidance of an FII Instructor -  Alex reached 100 feet/30 meters in Honaunau Bay, surrounded by a pod of spinner dolphins.

Talat Kayar

I signed up for a Level II Freediver class in July 2010 and really learned, for the first time, the basics of freediving; from technique to physiology, and everything in between.

This course was the quintessential freediver’s toolkit and worth its weight in gold. I came away from the course having learned more in four days than I could possibly have dreamed of figuring out by myself over a lifetime of freediving (I can’t wait to do Level III). Because I had built up so many bad habits freediving on my own, Martin & Niki insisted that I come back and practice my line-diving until I got it absolutely right (at no extra charge too… awesome). I really appreciated that they took the time and effort and made me earn that Level II certification.

Now I’m back for the 2010-2011 Winter Training Program and I don’t plan on missing a single class. My performance has improved substantially since last year. I can stay underwater longer, swim much further on one breath and complete many more repetitive apnea dives back to back. I have learned to slow down and swim more steadily underwater and my monofin technique is much smoother. I am now beginning to feel the aqua-dynamic effects and benefits of gliding through the water correctly. Since I began training with F.I.I. a little over a year ago, I lost about thirty pounds, gained all kinds of muscle and I am in the best physical condition I have ever been in my life. I still have a long way to go, and Martin pushes me even harder, as each class is customized to the student’s individual level. With this kind of training and support, I feel that I am on the verge of becoming a true apneist.
