The FII freediving education system focuses on developing and building upon a solid foundation of fundamental skills and knowledge with the highest emphasis on safety and enjoyment.  All core certification courses utilize a combination of academic, confined water and open water sessions which are expertly run in an easy-to-follow format ensuring the greatest retention of skills and knowledge.  As a fully standardized curriculum students are guaranteed to receive the same quality program worldwide and all courses are complemented with world-class teaching materials and student manuals available in over six different languages. Upon successfully meeting the academic and skill requirements of each course level students are awarded a certification card allowing them to gain entry into higher level courses and access trips and events.

Junior Freediver Course

This class is for participants 12-15 years old.

This 2 day program offers junior freedivers the opportunity to master the fundamentals of the FII freediving techniques in a relaxed, fun, safe environment.

The academics of this course have been specifically adapted by grade school teaching professionals to be both easily digestible and fun.  The junior freediver practical curricula offer students fun games and activities that cleverly integrate the fundamental skills and key safety protocols. During this course, students are trained up to a maximum depth of 50 ft/15 meters. The junior freediver course has a maximum student – instructor ratio of 4-1 providing the safest and most effective learning experience for our new generation of freedivers.  As a parent, this course is a must for your son/daughter to learn the proper freedive safety techniques! It saves lives!

Upon successful completion of the Jr. Freediver course and reaching the minimum age of 16 year old (with parent consent) participants will then be able to enroll directly into the FII Level 2 course.

Mask, Snorkel, Wetsuit, Weights, Weight belt, Fins and Timing device.

 

Certification: FII Junior Freediver

 

Course Duration: 2 day course

 

Minimum Age Requirement: 12 - 15 years old

 


 

Level 1 Freediver Course

The Level 1 course is an introduction to the fundamental techniques of the FII education system. This highly effective 1.5 day course covers everything from safety & problem management, breathing techniques & equipment selection to correct freediving methods for gradual depth progression. For many, this is the point of entry into FII's formal freediving education system and provides divers with a solid foundation to freedive confidently and safely up to depths of 66 feet/20 meters with breathholds up to 3 minutes. For divers already achieving these depths, it will provide an enhanced understanding of the sport and modern new techniques in order to be doing this more effectively and most importantly, more safely. This program includes academic presentations, confined water training and one open water session

As a F.I.I. Level 1 Freediver you will use the following equipment:

Mask, snorkel, min. 3mm wetsuit, weights, weight belt, fins, timing device.  Basic snorkel/scuba style equipment is OK for the Lvl 1 course.

 

Certification Level: Level 1 Freediver

 

Course Duration:  2 day course

 

Minimum Age Requirement: Participants must be 16 years or older

 


 

Level 1 Freediver - Pool Only Course

The pool only course offers the complete first day of the FII Level 1 course. Participants are invited to attend any future FII Level 1 Freediver open water (second day) to attain the full Level 1 Freediver certification. This course option was designed for inland locations or cold climates where open water training is not available.

Level 1 Academic Review

 

As a Level 1 Freediver you will use the following equipment:

Mask, snorkel, min. 3mm wetsuit, selection of weights (small 1-2lbs), weight belt, fins, timing device. Basic snorkel/scuba style equipment is OK for the Lvl 1 Freediver course.

 

Certification Level: FII Level 1 Freediver - Pool Only.

 

Course Duration: 1 day course

 

Minimum Age Requirement:    Participants must be 16 years or older

 

 


 

Level 2 Freediver Course

During this course students will build upon the fundamental skills trained in the FII level 1 Freediver course taking them safely up to depths of 30m+/100ft+. Students are shown how to utilize their natural inborn aquatic abilities and are instructed on specific techniques to activate them prior to diving. Students learn of the limitations of human physiology and the physics that the underwater environment impose upon us, along with mastering how to recognize these thresholds and how to avoid crossing them. This is a 3-day program with academic presentations, confined water training and three open water sessions.

 

Maximum depth of this course is 100ft+.

As a Level 2 Freediver you will use the following equipment:

Freediving mask, snorkel, 3mm spearfishing/freedive wetsuit, 1lb-2lb weights, rubber weight belt, freediving fins, freediving computer

 

Certification Level:  FII Level 2 Freediver

 

Course Duration: 3 day course

 

Minimum Age Requirement: Participants must be 16 years or older

 

Course Prerequisites:  FII Level 1 Freediver certification or equivalent.

 


 

Level 3 Freediver Course

This high intensity course provides participants with the knowledge to attain personal goals by utilizing freediving training techniques developed by F.I.I. founder and Freediving World Record Holder, Martin Stepanek. This advanced program opens up a whole new realm of freediving techniques and training knowledge. Whether  a recreational freediver, competitive spearfisherman or simply a freediving enthusiast, this course provides cutting edge information on modern advanced freediving techniques and information.  Student gain knowledge  on the demanding physiological aspects of freediving, nutrition for optimum performance, advanced safety and self rescue techniques, and other depth-specific training practices. The F.I.I. Level 3 course is guaranteed to take you to the next level and beyond!

Course Duration:  4 day course

 

Minimum Age Requirement: Participants must be 18 years or older

 

Course Prerequisites: FII Level 2 Freediver or equivalent
