FII Course Precautions During COVID-19
At FII the health and safety of our instructors, students, and community is our top priority.
During these unprecedented times, we are implementing short-term adaptations to our course protocols to better protect our community in locations where it is applicable. Due to geographical variation in degree of spread of COVID-19 and differences in local responses, our professional instructors will ensure the safest protocols are in place to best protect their local community.

Current Recommendations During Classroom Sessions
Students will need to complete a Covid-19 Health Screening Statement directly prior to course
Students are being asked to reschedule if should they feel sick or are the primary caregiver to a someone who is unwell
Students are recommended to wear facemasks when possible. FII is providing instructors with disposable face masks for students at no cost.
Students are encouraged to practice social distancing where possible during the training
Instructors will be limiting class size to small groups
60% alcohol based hand sanitizer available upon arrival and during all course components
Classroom spaces assessed to ensure sufficient ventilation
Arranging seating space to practice distancing where possible
Disinfecting classroom space prior and during the training
Instructors will be using a dummy or other tool when demonstrating safety in classroom. Dummy will be disinfected between each student practice
Current Recommendations During Practical Sessions
Providing hand sanitizer before boarding and on the boat
High touch surfaces to be constantly disinfected
Recommending there is sufficiently spaced seating on the vessel
Ensuring students are paired up with the same buddy for the entire course
Discouraging students from handling or testing out each other's gear during the course
Discouraging students from spitting in their mask, mask de-fog is recommended
Adapting practical safety scenarios to better protect students without compromising the standard set in the skill guideline Note: There are no changes in the student's responsibilities to act should their dive buddy need assistance at any time.
Additional Recommendations
Students are encouraged to attend with a spouse, family member or someone from their social circle as they can complete the class as one buddy team
We recommend students at high risk to severe COVID-19 to postpone their freediving training until future opportunities or complete distance learning only
Many FII Instructors are continuing to provide distance learning for the academic portions, Practical training can be completed at a future date with any instructor.
The sport of freediving is based on looking out for each other. Healthy freedivers should do everything to protect themselves and respectful of those around them, and unwell freedivers must stay at home. We are grateful for your interest in pursuing your freediving education with FII, and rest assured, during FII courses, instructors and student's health and safety always come first.
