?Every time I slip into the ocean, it?s like going home. With every drop of water you drink, every breath you take, you?re connected to the sea. Most of the oxygen in the atmosphere is generated by the ocean.? ? Sylvia Earle Sandy?s connection to the water runs deep. Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, she grew up captivated by the outdoors?whether it was swimming, playing in the snow, or embracing whatever nature had to offer. Her passion for the water began early, competing in swimming during high school and later teaching swimmers of all ages. While earning her degree in Biology, Sandy pursued her love for wakeboarding?coaching others and competing herself?before moving to Breckenridge, Colorado, to live an active lifestyle filled with snowboarding and biking. In 2015, ready for a personal and professional transformation, Sandy relocated to Kona, Hawai?i, where the Pacific Ocean became her new home. Starting as a PADI Open Water Diver, she trained under an experienced mentor, advancing to become both a PADI Dive Instructor and an FII Level 1 Freediving Instructor. Today, Sandy has logged thousands of hours beneath the waves as a dive professional and marine naturalist, educating divers and ocean enthusiasts about Hawai?i?s incredible marine life. She?s passionate about teaching safety, ocean awareness, and environmental stewardship?empowering each student to build confidence, respect for the sea, and a lasting love for the water.
