Rudi Hoehn is a driven, talented freediver and freediving instructor based in Honolulu, Hawai'i. He is certified as an F.I.I. Level 3 diver, and F.I.I. Level 1 instructor. His introduction to freediving took place as a child, in the cold waters of Nanaimo River on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where he would follow his father through underwater caves and beneath swirling rapids. Rudi's professional freediving career began in Hawai'i; he has studied and trained intensively with some of the greatest living freedivers, including former world-champion Martin Stepanek, current world-champion William Trubridge, US national record holder for depth Daniel Koval, and F.I.I. Level 3 instructor Bobby Kim. Rudi is most interested in freediving as a sport and as a holistic lifestyle that unifies development of mind / body / spirit, in a way similar to yet distinct from yoga. He believes that freediving is a truly unique path of personal development that can lead to an enhanced sense of community with others, a greater connection with and knowledge of the environment, and increased mental / physical / spiritual fulfillment. In addition to his freediving career, Rudi is also a professional musician; having studied at the highly-competitive Juilliard School, he has a lot of unique experience in extremely competitive, high-pressure performance situations, which have allowed him to develop and hone mental techniques which can apply to any high-pressure performance situation, from freediving to public speaking to performing on stage. He recently had the opportunity to apply some of these techniques at the 2018 Kona Depth Challenge, where he achieved 2nd place in what was his first freediving competition. Rudi's current personal bests are 61m/201ft FIM, 56m/181ft CWT, and 5:22 STA. He is continually working on his abilities and has aspirations to be one of the deepest divers in the world one day. He is also very interested in underwater videography. Follow him on YouTube and Instagram @rudifreediver.
